High Trenhouse, Malham Moor in the Yorkshire

Mixed Media weekend Painting holiday, 3-day (3-night) Thursday to Sunday, holiday will consist of some en plein painting and sketching in watercolour, plus soluble pens, with support sketches, photographs and written notes. Once back in the studio we’ll develop our sketches into paintings. Sue works in a variety of Medias, watercolour, pastel, acrylic and collage. Students can use their preferred media, or perhaps try something new? 

The group will be limited to just 10 people ensuring Sue gives everyone individual attention – early booking is recommended. 

Tutor Sue’s has a natural enthusiasm to develop students of all levels.

Sue has run several holidays at High Trenhouse. Set in the splendid isolation of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, High Trenhouse is an award winning residential venue ideal for creative events. It overlooks the renowned nature reserve of Malham Tarn, an upland limestone lake with raised peat bog and fenlands. The spots of Malham Cove, Janet’s Foss and Gordale Scar are just a short drive away. It’s a wonderful place to and unwind within the beautiful tranquillity of High Trenhouse

In the open landscape of Malham Moor, the grounds of High Trenhouse is an oasis of calm, incorporating ponds, woods, open spaces and intimate gardens. 

We will have exclusive use of the accommodation and all facilities, our own well-equipped workspace, our own bar, dining room, sauna and a choice of comfortable ensuite bedrooms. Dinner, bed and breakfast and a packed lunch are provided each day - the only extras will be the personal bar and telephone expenses.

 The programme for the course will include the following –

  •   Friendly and individual tuition
  •   Demonstrations in a variety of techniques and mediums
  •   Compositional and mixing colours and tonal values.  
  •   Daily critique of student’s sketchbooks/finished paintings 

Sue’s work is exhibited widely through local and national exhibitions and galleries including The Royal Society of Marine Artist (RSMA) the Society of Women Artists in the Mall Galleries, London, The Inspired Gallery in Danby North Yorkshire. Sue is a professional member of the Society of all Artists (SAA). She has published several articles for “Leisure Painter” and “Paint” magazines.

With a natural ability to draw, Sue can demonstrate a variety of subjects and will show students different painting techniques, explain about materials, the importance of composition and getting the best from their photos and sketches.

Sue’s main objective is to encourage students to achieve their goals and realise their creative ideas.

The fee includes:  • all tuition • exclusive use of the accommodation and all facilities dedicated hospitality with superb food • dinner, bed and breakfast, packed lunch and refreshments each day • arriving after 5pm on Thursday ?, dinner and course overview with tutor Sue Ford, giving you the opportunity to meet your fellow students. 

All students are requested to bring along their own materials, a full list will be provided with Confirmation.

Please ensure you read the booking conditions below prior to booking. Bookings can be taken by phone or email. Payments can be paid via bank transfer or cheque.   

Booking Conditions, The only extras will be the personal bar and telephone expenses.

A non-refundable deposit of £135 per person is required on booking.  Final payment will be required by 16 July 2018.  Please advise of any special dietary requirements at time of booking.  Cancellations must be made in writing to Sue Ford, written cancellations received 60 days prior to the course date, the deposit will be forfeit but the balance will be refunded provided this has been received.  It is regretted that no refund can be made in respect of bookings cancelled 60 days (or less) prior to commencement of the course unless a replacement can be found.  Please ensure you have travel insurance.
